Parliamentary Ombudsman nominates new Human Rights Delegation
On 27 March 2020, Petri Jääskeläinen, the Parliamentary Ombudsman, nominated a new Human Rights Delegation to serve a term from 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2024. The Delegation has 38 members; a total of 134 people applied to join the Human Rights Delegation.

French Language Services Commissioner Carl Bouchard released on 12 July 2024 a report urging the Ontario government to make all of its out-of-home advertising bilingual, after his latest investigation found it systematically failed to meet its obligations under the French Language Services Act (FLSA) – even when communicating important public health information.

Chief Ombudsman of Turkey re-elected to the post
Mr. Şeref Malkoç has been re-elected as Chief Ombudsman of Turkey by the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey on 11 November 2020. Mr Malkoç, a 60-year-old prominent lawyer and former member of the Parliament, was sworn in on the 1 December 2020 at the Parliament. Performing this duty since 05 December 2016, Mr. Malkoç’s new mandate will be for another four years until 2024.

Whistleblowing on the rise, growing number of complaints
The last week of June marks World Whistleblower Day and Chief Ombudsman Peter Boshier says he is very heartened to know that people seem to feel more comfortable about reporting issues. In 2022/2023 the Chief Ombudsman received 128 protected disclosures and enquiries, which was an 80% increase from the previous year (with 71 received in 2021/22).

Student Ambassador Programme of the Office of the Ombudsman Punjab
Under the leadership of Ms. Ayesha Hamid, Ombudsman Punjab and First Vice President of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI), the Office of the Ombudsman Punjab launched the Student Ambassador Programme to strengthen youth engagement and public awareness regarding administrative justice and citizens’ rights. The programme was inaugurated on 11 and 13 February 2026 at the Regional Office Multan, bringing together university students to serve as ambassadors of awareness within their academic institutions and communities.

It covers the period from 1 September 2019 to 31 August 2020 and gives an overview of the activities of the Chancellor of Justice in different areas, such as the rule of law, the rights of the child, the rights of persons with disabilities, inspection visits, protection and promotion of human rights, protection of privacy, and many others.
