The Ombudsman opened an own-initiative inquiry into the role of the Commission in ensuring that member state governments use EU funds with a view to promoting independent living for persons with disabilities and older persons, and transitioning away from residential care institutions. The inquiry takes place against the background of the COVID-19 pandemic, which had devastating consequences for people in these institutions.

The Office of the Ombudsman has presented to the Ministry of Agriculture, preliminary findings of its Systemic Investigation on the Implementation of the Affordable Inputs Programme for the 2022/23 and 2023/2024 growing seasons. These and other striking conclusions were drawn by the Seimas Ombudsman Augustinas Normantas, having summarized the results of the investigation into the provision of assistance to persons, who had experienced domestic violence.
