ANGOLA | Ombudsman assumed AOMA presidency

On 28 February 2024, the Ombudsman of the Republic of Angola, Dr. Florbela Rocha Araújo, assumed the Presidency of the African Ombudsman and Mediators Association (AOMA), in a solemn ceremony held in Durban, South Africa.

The event was attended by the Ombudsman of Rwanda, and outgoing President of AOMA, Dr. Madeleine Nirere, as well as members of the Executive Committee and representatives from several member countries of the association, namely the Ombudsmen of Zambia, South Africa, Benin, Botswana, Central African Republic and representatives of the Ombudsmen of Burundi and Gabon.

In her speech, Dr. Florbela Rocha Araújo emphasized the importance of training African Ombudsmen through training and highlighted the need to strengthen financial stability and support for the operations of AOMA and the African Ombudsman Research Center (AORC).

She also highlighted the ongoing partnership with the University of Kwazulu Natal to strengthen the image of AOMA, AORC, and the university itself.

She concluded her speech by encouraging study and research on the institution of the Ombudsman, reiterating the commitment of everyone involved in achieving the objectives established by AOMA.
