On 1 July 2025, the new Board of the Austrian Ombudsman institution was sworn in by the President of the Republic, Alexander Van der Bellen. As of 1 July, the Austrian Ombudsman Board consists of Mr. Christoph Luisser, Ms. Gaby Schwarz and Mr. Bernhard Achitz. Ombudsperson Luisser will hold the institution’s chair for the next twelve months.

Ombudsman implements new child-friendly section on the ombudsman website
Chief Ombudsman Peter Boshier says the aim of this new section is to provide information to tamariki, rangatahi and whānau who may be considering making a complaint about Oranga Tamariki or its care or custody providers. The development of the information for children is part of a wider programme to enhance the Ombudsman’s oversight of Oranga Tamariki.

Ombudsperson report finds financial support programs for people displaced by extreme weather emergencies outdated and unfair
In a report released on 3 October 2023, the BC Ombudsperson finds emergency support programs are outdated, under-resourced, inaccessible for vulnerable evacuees and poorly communicated and calls on government to take urgent action to better support people who are increasingly being displaced from their homes for long periods by extreme weather events.

The Ombudsman and the Right to Access the Administration in the Welfare State
The Office of the Ombudsman of Israel has the pleasure of sharing with the international Ombudsman community an article written by Ms. Merav Fox Sobol, Senior Deputy Head of Department at the Office of the Ombudsman, in collaboration with two Israeli scholars. The article, which was published in the Office's special Jubilee publication, examines the role of the Ombudsman pertaining to the right to access the administration.

Parliamentary Ombudsman Petri Jääskeläinen presented his annual report for 2022
Parliamentary Ombudsman Petri Jääskeläinen presented his annual report for 2022 to the first Deputy Speaker of Parliament Juho Eerola on Thursday 15 June. In 2022, there were a total of 6,613 complaints. This is the third largest number of complaints ever recorded. The largest number of complaints concerned social welfare, the police, healthcare and criminal sanctions. In the reporting year, 6,857 complaints were resolved.

The Ombudsman of Thailand acknowledged an appeal about Chonburi Provincial Social Development and Human Society Office’s delayed payment of funeral expenses for the elderly according to the traditional life style. The fact states that the number of passing elderlies is higher than the budget allocated to the Department of Older Persons.

The Yukon Ombudsman issues report into fairness complaint regarding sexualized abuse at Elementary School
The Office of the Yukon Ombudsman has issued the first of two reports into a complaint of unfairness against the Yukon Department of Education from a parent of a student at Hidden Valley Elementary School. The Ombudsman investigation found that the government’s failure to communicate with parents at the school was unfair, depriving parents of the opportunity to take timely action to help their children.

IOI President Chris Field PSM was honoured to be asked to join, and address, the formal Closing Ceremony of the inaugural International Conference of Ombudsman in Rome, joining Deputy Head of Cabinet with functions of the Lazio Region, Civita Di Russo; President of the Lazio Regional Council, Antonio Aurigemma; Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Giorgio Silli; and President of the National Coordination of Italian Ombudsmen and Ombudsman of the Lazio Region, Marino Fardelli.
