On the occasion of World Children’s Day, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Dunja Mijatović calls on political leaders to ensure that children’s rights remain firmly on top of their agendas. Council of Europe member states must take all necessary measures to build strong societies for the future. This means investing in children from early childhood on, to ensure their equal access to rights and address rising levels of child poverty.

Dublin Declaration adopted by IOI General Assembly
The Dublin Declaration sets out the contribution Ombudsman organisations will make to the UN Agenda 2030, especially the prerequisite of leaving ‘no one behind’ and ensuring that all persons can fulfil their potential in equality. The declaration commits to working towards achieving equality of access to vaccination, urging vaccines to be treated as a global public good to be made available equally around the globe.

Hidden prison disciplinary hearings lack scrutiny, Victorian Ombudsman finds
A Victorian Ombudsman investigation has found prisoner disciplinary hearings are still done “in the dark” and the potential for unfairness remains rife. The probe into the prison disciplinary process, which deals with prisoners who break prison rules, also found prisoners with mental health issues and cognitive impairment were not always offered adequate support and information.

Publication on access to justice for vulnerable and energy-poor consumers
A new publication by Naomi Creutzfeldt, Chris Gill, Marine Cornelis, and Rachel McPherson offers a novel socio-legal approach to access to justice, alternative dispute resolution, vulnerability and energy poverty. It assembles the findings of an interdisciplinary research project studying access to justice and its barriers in the UK, Italy, France, Bulgaria and Spain (Catalonia).
