The event, located at the confluence of Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay, was graciously supported by Itaipú Binacional.

Mr. Mehmet AKARCA has been elected at the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (GNAT) as the new Chief Ombudsman of the Republic of Türkiye. Mr. Mehmet Akarca was sworn in on 03 December 2024 and officially took office as the new Chief Ombudsman of Türkiye.

2024-12-19Successful completion of third phase of awareness campaign about role, responsibility and importance of Provincial Ombudsman
After successful completion of the 2nd phase of the project, the Hon'ble Provincial Ombudsman, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, decided to expand the awareness program throughout the province. Accordingly, different districts were visited for the purpose. So far, total 18 districts have been visited and awareness campaigns have been organized. This project has been sponsored by the IOI’s Regional Subsidy Programme.

On 1 August 2022, Ms. Gaby Schwarz took office as the new Secretary General of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI). Ms. Schwarz was sworn in as a member of the Austrian Ombudsman Board on 11 July 2022 and takes over the office of IOI Secretary General from her predecessor Werner Amon, who resigned as Austrian Ombudsman at the end of June 2022.

This focus area was chosen because children and young people with a psychiatric diagnosis can be in a particularly vulnerable situation. This is especially true for children and young people who need to be hospitalised in the psychiatric sector.

The report highlights significant challenges and systemic discrimination faced by women in prisons around the globe, calling for urgent reforms and greater use of alternatives to detention.
