The Board of Directors of Ombudsman.be has appointed Federal Ombudsman David Baele as the new President of the Belgian Network of Ombudsmen. He succeeds Marc Bertrand. The network will continue to strengthen cooperation and make ombudsman services even more accessible to citizens and businesses, helping them more easily to find the right ombudsman when facing issues with public services or companies.

The Ombudsman collaborated with the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) to resolve a problem of locals having no electricity
The amount of 9 locals - who reside at moo 9 and moo 20, Muang Kao sub-district, Prachin Buri province - had submitted an appeal to the Ombudsman to find facts on the actions of the Provincial Electricity Authority - Kabin Buri Office and of the Muang Kao Sub-district Administrative Office about not expanding the electricity distribution area which has had an impact on them for more than 50-years.

"Increase in CPI Leads to Rise in GDP Per Capita" - Integrity Education for Future Generations to be Strengthened
Last year, Korea achieved its highest-ever ranking (30th) on the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI). The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) aims to maintain the upward trend through strengthened integrity education for future generations. ACRC to expand the inclusion of integrity content in elementary, middle, and high school textbooks, work with military academies, the Korea National Police University, and teachers’ colleges to make integrity lectures mandatory, and sign MOUs with major universities.

First international conference for NHRIs and ombuds institutions
In 2024, the Basque Ombudsman, Manuel Lezertua, together with the President of the IOI European Region, visited Strasbourg. The purpose of their visit was to revive the practice of organizing conferences for ombuds institutions, a tradition that had previously been upheld by the Commissioner for Human Rights. The Basque Ombudsman proposal played a crucial role in bringing into being the High-Level Conference in Strasbourg in March 2025 for National Human Rights and Ombuds Institutions. Cárcel federal de Ezeiza: la justicia federal procesó a 54 agentes penitenciarios por torturas
En lo que representa un fallo sin precedentes en el tratamiento judicial de las prácticas sistemáticas de torturas en cárceles federales de Argentina, el Juzgado Federal N° 2 de Lomas de Zamora recientemente dispuso el procesamiento de 54 agentes del SPF en orden a los delitos de imposición y omisión de evitar torturas, entre otros.

Celebrating the Success of the International Ombud Expo 2024
The 2nd International Ombud Expo (IOE) 2024 concluded on a high note, reaffirming the crucial role of Ombud institutions in strengthening governance, upholding human rights, and ensuring good public administration. Hosted in Gaborone, Botswana, from July 29 to August 2, 2024, the event brought together 541 delegates, including Ombud offices, human rights bodies, grievance handlers, and integrity organisations from over 100 countries. The participation of the AOMA Secretariat AORC and of some institutions, which could not afford exhibition stalls and have their accommodation subsidised, received financial support of the IOI including through its regional subsidy programme.

Christian Britten Lundblad elected new Ombudsman
On 13 March 2025, the Danish Parliament elected Christian Britten Lundblad as new Ombudsman. He is succeeding Niels Fenger, who in October 2024 took up a position as judge at the Court of Justice of the European Union. Christian Britten Lundblad will take over as Ombudsman on 1 May 2025 after a period with High Court Judge Henrik Bloch Andersen as temporary Ombudsman.

La ineficacia de la Administración frena el progreso social de Cataluña
El 18 de marzo de 2025, la síndica de greuges de Cataluña, Esther Giménez-Salinas, acompañada por su adjunto general, Jordi Palou-Loverdos, entregó al presidente del Parlamento catalán, Josep Rull, el Informe anual de la institución correspondiente al año 2024. Este informe concluye que la eficacia de la Administración catalana debe mejorar, y es que la ineficacia genera desconfianza en las instituciones, afecta a la calidad de vida de las personas, amenaza la sostenibilidad del estado del bienestar, frena el ascensor social y obstaculiza el desarrollo económico.
