Ombudsman SA reaches 50
2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the Ombudsman South Australia (SA). The Ombudsman Act 1972 was assented to on 23 November 1972 and the Office opened its doors to the public on 14 December 1972. At that time, South Australia was only the second Australian jurisdiction after Western Australia to install a parliamentary Ombudsman (although South Australia was the first to use the title ‘Ombudsman’). Now all States, Territories and the Commonwealth have an Ombudsman.

Ombudsman publishes special report on rights of persons with disabilities
The Greek Ombudsman published on 7th November a Special Report on Rights of Persons with Disabilities. This is the third of its kind since the assignment to the Ombudsman of the special mandate for the external, independent monitoring of the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Second meeting under MOU with Ombudsman of New Zealand
On the sidelines of the Southeast Asian Ombudsman Forum (SEAOF) Meeting, held 30 October – 3 November 2022, in Bangkok, Chief Ombudsman Somsak Suwansujarit held a second Ombudsman-level meeting under the MOU on bilateral cooperation between the Ombudsman of Thailand and the Ombudsman of New Zealand. The Chief Ombudsman further took the opportunity of this SEAOF event to sign a MOU with the Ombudsman for Human Rights and Justice of Timor-Leste.

The President of the Group of Portuguese-Speaking Countries Ombudsman and National Commissions and other Human Rights Institutions of the CPLP, Antónia Florbela Rocha Araújo, considered on Wednesday, 26 October 2022, "the defence of Human Rights" as a challenge of all nations during the opening speech of the lecture that Angola held under the theme: From the Syndication of Maladministration to the Defense of Human Rights, which took place in the hall of the working room of the Constitutional Court.

Western Australian Ombudsman commences major new function as Western Australian Charitable Trusts Commission
The Office of the Ombudsman of Western Australia has commenced a major new function as the Western Australian Charitable Trusts Commission following the proclamation of the Charitable Trusts Act 2022. There is a particular importance to charitable trusts in Western Australia given many are established for the purpose of advancing the interests of Aboriginal Western Australian communities.

Provincial Ombudsman Sindh gets widow her due right denied by agency for 4 years
A widow approached the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh Mr. Ajaz Ali Khan stating that the authorities concerned have refused to process her request for appointment in place of her deceased husband. To redress grievance of the complainant Ombudsman Sindh issued directives to the authorities concerned to initiate enquiry against the Officers / Officials responsible for delaying the matter.

IOI President and IOI Vice President Europe visit Kyiv, Ukraine
IOI President Field and IOI Vice President Europe Behrens commenced their third day in Kyiv with a visit to the bunker used by the staff of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights followed by a formal exchange with the Commissioner and a meeting of his Coordination Council. The President and Vice President Europe then visited places of destruction in Kyiv.

A Lae widow had the best Christmas gift in December when she was awarded the title for her property in Lae, Morobe Province, something she lost to fraudulent activities by certain National Housing officers. The woman said she had nothing but praise for the Ombudsman Commission (OC) after the Commission’s intervention set into motion the recovery of her title.

Ombudsman Sindh presents Annual Report 2021 to Governor
Hon. Ombudsman Sindh, Mr. Ajaz Ali Khan, presented the Annual Report 2021 of the institution to the newly appointed Honourable Governor Sindh, Mr. Kamran Khan Tessori, on 18 November 2022. The Report highlights the performance, achievements and progress during the year 2021. During this period a total of 7,113 complaints were received, out of which 2,129 were admitted.
