Italy-Argentina: Bilateral Meeting in the Name of Civil Defense
At the Regional Council of Lazio, a meeting took place between Marino Fardelli, Civil Ombudsman of Lazio and President of the Coordination of Italian Civil Ombudsmen, and Walter Domingo Martello, Vice General Civil Ombudsman of the Province of Buenos Aires. The purpose of the meeting was to exchange experiences between the two institutions, and this goal was fully achieved with a commitment to continue in the future.

The PSC benefit compensates Veterans for disabilities related to their service. How VAC pays the PSC benefit directly affects what happens to Veterans’ compensation when they die.

Durante los dos últimos meses, entre el 15 de enero y el 15 de marzo, el tejido asociativo de la ciudad ha presentado ocho candidaturas para el cargo de síndic o síndica de greuges de Barcelona, personas escogidas por las entidades por su trayectoria personal y profesional y por su conocimiento de la ciudad. Las ocho candidaturas presentadas significan un importante incremento respecto al proceso de elección del 2016, cuando se presentaron cinco personas para el cargo.

On March 29, the Ombudsman, Ms Winnie Chiu, announced the completion of a direct investigation into the Government’s handling of misconnection of private building sewers to the stormwater collection system (referred to as “sewer misconnection”) and has made eight recommendations for improvement having regard to the inadequacies found on the part of the Buildings Department (BD) and the Environmental Protection Department (EPD).

La PPN presenta un nuevo reporte estadístico a febrero de 2021 sobre la situación de las personas privadas de la libertad ante la actual emergencia sanitaria. El documento alerta sobre un nuevo récord de personas alojadas en centros de detención no penitenciarios de la Policía de la CABA, la mayoría de las cuales con prisión preventiva e incluso con condena. En cambio, la población encarcelada en el SPF se mantiene estable desde hace más de 6 meses, luego del descenso producido en los primeros dos meses de la pandemia.

ECRI highlights 2020: Inequalities related to COVID-19, growing religious intolerance, backlash against LGBTI people
The Council of Europe’s anti-racism commission (ECRI) in its 2020 annual report published today, ahead of the International Day against Racial Discrimination marked on 21 March, identified four key challenges Europe was facing last year. These are: mitigating the disproportional impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on vulnerable groups, tackling deep-rooted racism in public life, combating anti-Muslim racism and antisemitism in the face of terrorism, and addressing the backlash against the protection of human rights of LGBTI people.
