National Mechanism for the Prevention of Torture visited some places of detention that had been visited by the SPT and CPT delegations during their last periodic visits (in 2017 by the CPT and in 2018 by the SPT). The NMPT visits were thematic ones and focused on verifying the recommendations of the monitoring bodies.

This 261 page report sums up some of the most serious problems relating to the rule of law and the administration of justice that have arisen over a considerable period of time.

2021-03-29Ombudsman Hong Kong announces results of investigation into Government’s handling of misconnection of private building sewers to stormwater collection systems
On March 29, the Ombudsman, Ms Winnie Chiu, announced the completion of a direct investigation into the Government’s handling of misconnection of private building sewers to the stormwater collection system (referred to as “sewer misconnection”) and has made eight recommendations for improvement having regard to the inadequacies found on the part of the Buildings Department (BD) and the Environmental Protection Department (EPD).

At the 2014 meeting of the IOI Board of Directors, Dame Beverley A. Wakem resigned from her office as IOI President. Dame Beverley, whose term as Chief Ombudsman of New Zealand will end next year, took the occasion of the Vienna Board Meeting to bid farewell to her fellow members on the Board and hand the Presidency over to Adv. John R. Walters, Ombudsman of Namibia.
