The BC Ombudsperson says people in British Columbia are facing a growing mix of pressures when trying to access fair public services. Services are becoming more complex to navigate. Public sector budgets are tightening. And increasingly, decisions are being shaped by AI or automated decision making. In his 2024/25 Annual Report, released on 18 November 2025, Ombudsperson Jay Chalke says many of the matters reaching his office are now crisis-driven, and points to cases where people were left without essential supports until his office intervened.

In a symbolic moment held in the Blue Zone at COP30, the Federal Public Defenders' Office, represented by Federal Public Defender-General Leonardo Magalhães, officially delivered two international documents to the Presidency of the United Nations Climate Change Conference. The documents delivered – the DPU Declaration on the Need for a Comprehensive Anti-Discrimination Law in Brazil and the RINDHCA-DPU Declaration of Principles on Human Rights and Climate Action – synthesize a joint effort of international and regional cooperation aimed at strengthening the integration between human rights and climate policies.

On 6 June 2024, Human Rights Ombudsman Peter Svetina handed over the 29th regular Annual Report of the Human Rights Ombudsman and the 16th report of the National Preventive Mechanism for 2023 to the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia, Urška Klakočar Zupančič, MA, after he had forwarded it to the National Assembly one day prior in accordance with Article 5 of the Human Rights Ombudsman Act. After the meeting, the Ombudsman and the Speaker of the DZ made a public statement.

The Office of the Ombudsman in Malawi on June 2, 2024 woke up to the sad news of the death of the first Ombudsman in the country the Honorable James Makoza Chirwa. Ombudsman Grace Malera and other members of the senior management attended the funeral on behalf of the office where she hailed all the strides that the office registered during the late Chirwa’s tenure.
