Fernández Marugán viaja a Ceuta y Melilla para entrevistarse con autoridades y ONG
El Defensor del Pueblo (e.f.), Francisco Fernández Marugán, ha realizado una visita oficial a las ciudades autónomas de Ceuta y Melilla del 1 al 4 de junio para entrevistarse con autoridades y representantes de ONG. Fernández Marugán ha querido conocer de primera mano la situación en ambas ciudades tras la entrada a nado en Ceuta de numerosas personas extranjeras la semana del 17 de mayo. Al Defensor le preocupa especialmente la acogida de los menores extranjeros no acompañados.

Public Defender’s 9th Special Report on Equality
On April 22, 2024, the Public Defender of Georgia presented the 9th annual report on the situation of equality. The report provides an overview of the obstacles faced by women, persons with disabilities, representatives of religious and ethnic minorities, members of the LGBTIQ+ community and other vulnerable groups in terms of the realization of the right to equality in various fields during 2023. The report also provides information about the activities carried out and decisions made by the Public Defender of Georgia for the protection of the right to equality.

OmbudsPEI inquiry leads to policy change relating to Legal Aid representation in PEI
After receiving complaints from individuals who were denied representation by Legal Aid, an inquiry by OmbudsPEI has resulted in the commitment to create a new internal policy. The policy will ensure fair decisions are made when an application for representation is denied.

Yukon Ombudsman calls to modernize Act
Yukon Ombudsman Jason Pedlar has requested amendments to the Ombudsman Act that give him the same authority found in the majority of Canadian jurisdictions and align it with international best practices. Pedlar has submitted a report to the Yukon Legislative Assembly with proposed changes to the Ombudsman Act, to better protect Yukoners.

The Greek Ombudsmn published a new report on the challenges of migratory flows and refugee protection. It focuses on the conditions and administrative procedures for the reception of applicants for international protection and is based on reports from on-site inspections at Controlled Access Facilities for Temporary Accommodation of Asylum Seekers, carried out by Senior Investigators of the Greek Ombudsman.

12th World Conference successfully hosted by the Irish Ombudsman
The office of the Ombudsman of Ireland successfully hosted the 12th World Conference of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) from 26 – 27 May 2021. Unfortunately, due the Covid-19 pandemic conference delegates were not able to come together and meet in Dublin in persons as originally planned. However, the Irish host delivered a professional online event, which made sure that participants enjoyed the full conference experience with remarkable speakers, interesting workshops and a wide possibility for exchange and shared learning.

El Defensor del Pueblo (e.f.), Francisco Fernández Marugán, ha asegurado este martes que “el proceso de vacunación está desarrollándose de forma muy positiva” en nuestro país. En su comparecencia ante la Comisión Mixta de Relaciones con el Defensor del Pueblo, Fernández Marugán ha revelado que la Institución no ha recibido “ninguna queja” sobre dicho reparto.
