Proportion of Indigenous Women in Federal Custody Nears 50%: Correctional Investigator Issues Statement
Ottawa, December 17, 2021 – Today, the Correctional Investigator, Dr. Ivan Zinger, released new data that shows that the proportion of incarcerated Indigenous women has continued to increase unabated, and is nearing 50% of all federally-sentenced women. On January 21, 2020, the Office of the Correctional Investigator reported that the proportion of Indigenous men and women in federal custody had reached a new historic high, surpassing 30% of the overall incarcerated population. The combined men and women Indigenous proportion in federal corrections is now 32%, and climbing.

Fue elegida hoy por la Legislatura porteña para ocupar el cargo que había dejado vacante Alejandro Amor en julio, cuando renunció para postularse como primer candidato a legislador por el Frente de Todos. La flamante Defensora del Pueblo aseguró que trabajará para lograr "el bien común y para representar a quienes viven y transitan cotidianamente por la Ciudad".

Public Defender of Georgia Becomes Member of IOI Board of Directors
We are pleased to announce that on November 15, 2021, the Public Defender of Georgia, for the first time in the history of the Public Defender’s Office, has started fulfilling the duties of a member of the Board of Directors of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI). The Public Defender’s Office will represent the European region in the Board. The Office was elected a member of the European region in 2019. The Board of Directors oversees the organization's activities and makes decisions about its future activities.

Defensoría del Pueblo: baja ejecución presupuestal para mitigar efectos de heladas y friaje podría afectar a más de 824 mil personas
La Defensoría del Pueblo advierte que más de 824 mil personas en todo el territorio nacional podrían verse afectadas en su integridad y en sus medios de subsistencia, debido a la baja ejecución de los presupuestos que han sido destinados para mitigar los efectos de las heladas y friaje. En ese sentido, instó a los tres niveles de gobierno a intervenir de manera oportuna y eficiente en aquellas zonas en las que la población esté más expuesta a dichos fenómenos naturales.
