SPSO Launches Training for Handling Child Friendly Complaints
Rosemary Agnew, the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman (SPSO), has launched an online training to help public service organisations handle complaints from or involving children and young people. The online training course is designed for complaints handlers and frontline staff. It shows how organisations can put children and young people’s rights at the heart of the complaints process.

10 Students from Sukkur IBA University Selected as Ambassadors for Ombudsman Sindh
Ten students from Sukkur IBA University have been selected as Ambassadors for Ombudsman Sindh as part of the 4th Round of the Ambassador Program. Earlier, 10 students each from Hamdard University, Sindh Madressatul Islam University and Salim Habib University were selected. The selected students aim to foster civic responsibility, promoting accountability and support the Ombudsman’s mission.

Ombudsman Newsletter Issue 15 now available
The Commission on Administrative Justice (Office of the Ombudsman) has recently published its 15th issue of the Ombudsman Newsletter (October - December 2024). This newsletter's main topics are, amongst others, an introduction to the third cohort of commissioners that took office on 9 December 2024, the Commission being named as the Best Public Sector Legal Department of 2024 at the 7th Annual Gala and Award Ceremony of the Nairobi Legal Awards as well as a training for Civil Society Organizations including the dissemination of a Public Inquiry Report on the challenges citizens face when obtaining legal identity documents.

Awareness Raising Session at Mauritius Prisons Training School
With a view to commemorating the Human Rights Day 2024, the Office of the Ombudsman conducted an awareness session on 5th December 2024 at the Mauritius Prisons Training School. With an engaged audience of 65 participants, the session aimed to sensitize Prison Officers and newly recruited Officers on the role and services provided by the Office and their duties and responsibility under prevailing local legislation and International Covenants.

People not given answers when they complain to NHS, latest ombudsman report reveals
The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman's latest snapshot of cases it has investigated includes cases about grieving parents and partners not being given answers as to why their loved ones died and mistakes not being admitted, which means that much needed service improvements are being delayed. The latest snapshot of cases published today details how one family was forced to bring their complaint to the Ombudsman service, after their nine-year-old son died of sepsis after he was wrongly discharged from hospital.

Workshop held at Salim Habib University to select 10 students as ambassadors to Ombudsman Sindh
The 3rd round of the Workshop on the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh’s Ambassador Programme was held at Salim Habib University, Karachi, on 11 December 2024 to instill the concept of civic responsibilities and advocacy skills in the youth of Sindh by carrying out the community outreach of ombudsman mandate to student community and general public. The workshop, initiated through the Regional subsidy of the IOI, focused on the role of the Provincial Ombudsman Office in providing administrative justice to the public, and was chaired by the Honourable Ombudsman of Sindh, Mr. Muhammad Sohail Rajput.

Report on issues associated with violence restraining orders and their relationship with family and domestic violence fatalities
The Western Australian Ombudsman has tabled a report of a major investigation into the prevention of family and domestic violence fatalities. The report identifies a range of important opportunities for improvements, including the need for a separate strategy to prevent Aboriginal family violence given that Aboriginal Western Australians are significantly overrepresented as victims of family violence. The report further identifies nine key principles for government agencies to apply when responding to family and domestic violence. Each agency has agreed to the 54 recommendations made by the Ombudsman.

Ombudsman announces results of direct investigation operation into public services relating to after-death arrangements
On 18 December 2024, The Ombudsman, Mr Jack Chan, announced the completion of a direct investigation operation into the public services relating to after-death arrangements, and made a total of 10 major recommendations to the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, the Department of Health, the Hospital Authority and the Immigration Department.

Successful completion of third phase of awareness campaign about role, responsibility and importance of Provincial Ombudsman
After successful completion of the 2nd phase of the project, the Hon'ble Provincial Ombudsman, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, decided to expand the awareness program throughout the province. Accordingly, different districts were visited for the purpose. So far, total 18 districts have been visited and awareness campaigns have been organized. This project has been sponsored by the IOI’s Regional Subsidy Programme.

Community faces separation after only chance to remain together was squandered
An investigation by the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman has found that a small, tight-knit community was denied the chance to stay together due to a catalogue of errors by High Speed Two Limited (HS2 Ltd). A group of six families, from Staffordshire, whose homes were set to be destroyed because they were on the HS2 route, fell victim of a number of failings by HS2 Ltd over two years, placing them under severe stress and worry, hugely impacting their home lives, jobs, careers and health.
