On 8 April 2025, the Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman launched a set of videos to help staff in public bodies deal with complaints from members of the public. The videos explain why complaints should be taken seriously and give step-by-step guidance to staff on how to investigate complaints well.

Ombudsman Northern Territory launches investigation report on women in prison
An Ombudsman investigation report relating to the conditions faced by women in the Alice Springs Women's Correctional Facility has been tabled in the Legislative Assembly. Women in Prison II revisits similar issues to those discussed in a 2008 Ombudsman report. It concludes that progress since then has been limited at best.

SPSO Launches New Interactive Complaints Map

On 13 March 2025, the Ombudsman, Mr Jack Chan, announced the completion of a direct investigation operation into the Housing Department ("HD")'s handling of illegal parking in public housing estates, and made 12 recommendations for improvement to the HD.

New Secretary General Bernhard Achitz takes office
On 10 March 2025, Mr. Bernhard Achitz took office as the new Secretary General of the International Ombudsman Institute. He succeeds Gaby Schwarz in this important role and is looking forward to continuing the important work and services, which the IOI provides to its members around the world. He thanks Ms. Schwarz for her strong commitment and service to the IOI.

Provincial Ombudsman Khyber Pakhtunkhwa achieves highest target in number of complaints
In the year 2024, the Provincial Ombudsman Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded a significant surge in complaints, totaling over 5,348 cases with 4,043 complaints disposal - a notable increase from the previous year. This substantial rise in complaints filed with the Ombudsman Office indicates a growing awareness among the general public about their rights and the available avenues for redress.
