Newly adopted UN Resolution further strengthens Ombudsman institutions worldwide
On 15 December 2022, the UN General Assembly adopted the Resolution on the role of Ombudsman and mediator institutions in the promotion and protection of human rights, good governance and the rule of law. This new version of the Resolution draws attention to Ombudsman institutions’ NPM mandate, Ombudsman under threat, the Venice Principles as well as the IOI’s important role as a platform for best practice sharing between Ombudsman offices.

ACRC announces three major tasks for 2025
The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission announced three major tasks to focus on under its 2025 vision “People with Better Life, Korea to Leap Forward.” Given the increasing concerns about added grievances due to the uncertainties both within and outside of Korea, the ACRC has made stabilizing livelihoods and protecting marginalized groups a top priority.

Ombudsman hosts a delegation of CSOs to discuss cooperation
The Honorable Ombudsman for the Republic of Malawi, Grace Tikambenji Malera, has called for a structured relationship with Civil Society Organizations in the country over their mutual responsibilities of enforcing the law. Ms Malera said this when her office hosted a delegation of leaders of the National Alliance Against Corruption and the Citizen Alliance.

Report on the monitoring of the Mandatory Disease Testing Act 2021, tabled in Parliament
On 5 February 2025, the NSW Ombudsman’s report monitoring the Mandatory Disease Testing Act 2021, was tabled in Parliament. The NSW Ombudsman has a statutory role to monitor the administration of the Mandatory Disease Testing Act 2021, providing for mandatory blood testing of a person whose bodily fluids have come into contact with those of a public sector worker in a work context.

El 13 de enero de 2025, el Yuan de Control (YC) celebró una sesión de revisión del trabajo correspondiente al año 2024, la cual fue presidida por el vicepresidente Hung-chun Lee. En esta sesión del trabajo anual, el vicepresidente expresó su deseo de promover la integridad, la buena gobernanza y la salvaguarda de los derechos humanos, demostrando el valor y la contribución de la institución a la sociedad.

Rome hosts celebrations for the 45th anniversary of the Lazio Region Civic Defender: participants to be received by Pope Francis
On the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the Lazio Region Civic Defender, a major international event will be held in Rome, organized by Marino Fardelli, President of the Italian Civic Defenders, Civic Defender of the Lazio Region, and member of the European Board of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI). Adding further prestige to the initiative will be the general audience with Pope Francis on the morning of April 9, during which participants will be welcomed by the Holy Father.
