The Commonwealth National Preventive Mechanism has released a report as part of its monitoring role under the Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture. The report identified several systemic issues and concerns related to the service provider transition, which impacted overall safety and security and the day to day lives and experiences of people in detention.

For people with mental illnesses, it is particularly important that the transition from inpatient treatment in the psychiatric wards of hospitals to follow-up care with practising specialists and outpatient follow-up care works well. Ombudsman Bernhard Achitz is therefore calling for better discharge management.

Tabled in Parliament on 18 March 2026, a new investigation report by the Victorian Ombudsman "Outsourcing small claims handling: How councils manage fairness and responsibility" looked into local councils' use of small claims handlers to manage claims for injury or property damage that fall below the excess in their insurance policy.

2017-12-21Post-hurricane support for the Caribbean region
Following the devastating hurricanes that severely affected many islands in the Caribbean region during the month of September of this year, the IOI Executive Committee approved a one-time € 8000.00 emergency subsidy. Some of the hardest hit islands in the region include: Antigua & Barbuda, Sint Maarten, British Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, United States Virgin Islands and Dominica.

2025-03-06Ombudsman Ontario kicks off 50th anniversary year with Good Governance Awards
On 28 February 2025, the Ontario Ombudsman Paul Dubé announced a new award for public sector bodies that have demonstrated exemplary administrative practices – the Ombudsman’s Award for Good Governance – as part of his office’s 50th anniversary activities. Awards will be given to selected organizations in three areas of the Ombudsman’s mandate – provincial government bodies, broader public sector bodies (e.g., school boards, universities, children’s aid societies), and municipalities, he announced.

Paul Dubé, l’Ombudsman de l’Ontario, a lancé le 28 février 2025 un prix destiné aux organismes du secteur public ayant des pratiques administratives exemplaires – le Prix de l’Ombudsman pour la bonne gouvernance. Des prix seront remis dans le cadre du 50e anniversaire d’Ombudsman Ontario, à des organismes œuvrant dans trois domaines relevant du mandat de l’Ombudsman : organismes gouvernementaux provinciaux, organismes du secteur parapublic (ex. : conseils scolaires, universités et sociétés d’aide à l’enfance) et municipalités.
