Velislava Delcheva is the new Ombudsman of the Republic of Bulgaria
With 123 votes in favour, 92 against and 5 abstentions, MPs elected Velislava Delcheva as the new Ombudsman of the Republic of Bulgaria. She was supported by the votes of GERB-SDS, BSP-United Left, ITN, DPS-New Beginning, and four independent MPs.

Improving the Indonesian Ombudsman’s Contribution in Implementing and Achieving the SDGs
The Ombudsman’s work in enhancing public service delivery across all levels of government significantly impacts the advancement of Goal 16 of the SDGs. With the SDGs target period concluding in 2030 and progress still lagging, the Ombudsman’s contributions should be continuously promoted. Therefore, the institution issued a concise book presenting a collection of nine articles that document the institution’s efforts in supporting SDG Goal 16 and other related goals. The content reflects oversight results on public services spanning ministries, agencies, and local governments, demonstrating increasing compliance with service standards achieved over nearly ten years.

The Ombudsman, Manuel Lezertua, steps down from office after ten years leading the Ombudsman of the Basque Country
On 10 June 2025, the Ararteko-Ombudsman of the Basque Country, Manuel Lezertua, officially announced to the Parliament of the Basque Country his decision to step down after ten years in office. The current Deputy Ombudsman, Inés Ibañez de Maeztu, will remain as interim Ombudsman until the Basque Parliament appoints the new Ombudsman.

Celebration of the 20th anniversary of the election of the first Ombudsman in Angola
On April 22 and 23, 2025, the Central Ceremony and the International Conference marking the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the election of the first Ombudsman of the Republic of Angola took place at the Auditorium of the Palace of Justice in Luanda, under the theme: “Ombudsman: 20 Years Serving Citizens and the Democratic Rule of Law”, as part of the celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of National Independence. The main objective was to commemorate both the 50th anniversary of Angola’s Independence and the 20th anniversary of the election of the first Ombudsman, and to reflect on the role of the Ombudsman in a democratic state through experience-sharing with national and international public and private entities.
