The Ombudsman for Children and Adolescents in Luxembourg (OKAJU) is continuing its successful cooperation with EMN Luxembourg by co-organizing their third thematic yearly meeting on the subject of “Children in Migration” on 25 June 2026. This edition will bring together ombudspersons for children and youth, as well as child welfare agencies, around the topic of the best interests of the child in the context of the implementation of the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum. Tabled in Parliament on 18 March 2026, a new investigation report by the Victorian Ombudsman "Outsourcing small claims handling: How councils manage fairness and responsibility" looked into local councils' use of small claims handlers to manage claims for injury or property damage that fall below the excess in their insurance policy.

La Diputada del Común, Lola Padrón, ha solicitado a la Consejería de Presidencia, Administraciones Publicas, Justicia y Seguridad que se adopten las medidas necesarias para que, con la diligencia debida y en estricto cumplimiento de la Ley Canaria de Educación no Universitaria, se proceda a destinar al presupuesto educativo el 5% del producto interior bruto canario, conforme al mínimo que regula la citada Ley. Padrón asegura que es preciso que se cumpla la Ley 6/2014, de 25 de julio, “en aras de alcanzar el logro de los principios rectores del sistema educativo canario”.

Citizens need an accessible government specifically tailored to them: Record number of second line complaints at the Flemish Ombudsman Service
In 2025, the Flemish Ombudsman Service received 10,158 questions and complaints, with a remarkable increase in the number of second‑line complaints. A growing cohort of citizens ends up at the Flemish Ombuds Service when procedures are too complex, when they struggle with digital public service desks, or when communication from governmental actors is unclear. According to Flemish Ombudsman, Myriam Parys, these signals show that there is still room for improvement for the Flemish Government when it comes to becoming more accessible, transparent, and responsive. That is why she is advocating more than ever for a government that is tailored to the needs of the people.

The reason for this is dozens of complaints from parents about the proposed amendments to the Ordinance on the Admission of Children to Municipal Nurseries and Kindergartens. The Ombudsman expresses concern about the repeal of the additional point under General Criterion 5 for children who have attended a municipal stand-alone nursery or a private nursery registered with the Sofia Regional Health Inspectorate.

Public Services Ombudsman for Wales publishes follow-up report on support for unpaid carers
On 4 March 2026, the Office of the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales published ‘Are we caring for our carers? Revisited’, a follow-up to their 2024 Own Initiative investigation into how Welsh local authorities identify, assess and support unpaid carers. The original investigation examined whether 4 local authorities were meeting their statutory duties under the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014. While examples of good practice were identified, it was found that only a small proportion of carers received assessments of their needs, and many were unaware of their rights or the support available.
