SG Achitz met with Ombudsman Leblanc Gonzalez and his team
On 29 October 2025, IOI Secretary General Bernhard Achitz welcomed the recently elected Regional Director for the IOI’s Caribbean and Latin American Region and Ombudsman of Panama, Mr Eduardo Leblanc Gonzalez, to Vienna.
Secretary General Achitz gave a comprehensive overview of the IOI’s activities and the services it offers to its members. Among these, he highlighted training, regional subsidies for Ombudsman-related projects, or that the IOI can and does lend its support to OM who come under threat.
The Ombudsman of Panama presented the work of his office at an international level as well as the challenges the office is confronted with, such as the rights of miners, the rights of migrants on the move, or the issue of water reservoirs for the Panama Canal and necessary resettlements of villages to realize such projects.
As an active member in different international organisations, Mr Leblanc seeks ways to exchange experiences and best practices with colleagues from around the world and being part of an international organization, such as the IOI, allows networking with colleagues from around the world.
