MOLDOVA | People’s Advocate presents Annual Report 2019

In 2019, political events with major impact took place in Moldova, which affected the state of affairs in the field of human rights. “These political changes in the country cannot be accepted as an excuse for the lack of firm actions that contribute to the realization of human rights in a manner appropriate to the human rights treaties to which the Republic of Moldova is a party”, says Moldova Ombudsman Mihail Cotorobai in his annual report on the observance of human rights in the country in 2019.

Mr Cotorobai continues to argue that: “Regardless of the political situation in the country, any government should pay attention to the field of human rights. The obligations of the State in the field of human rights derive from the treaties to which the state is a party. These commitments assumed by the Republic of Moldova must be indispensable criteria for the decision-making process at the state level, as well as for the elaboration of the public policy documents.”
