Canada | Ombudsman of Montreal publishes Investigation report and recommendations on homelessness among Indigenous and Inuit persons

The Ombudsman of Montreal has published an Investigation report and recommendations on homelessness among Indigenous and Inuit persons in the Milton-Parc area in Montreal.

This report stems from an initiative taken by a citizens’ group that was justifiably exasperated. It also addresses, above all, a humanitarian crisis at the very heart of our city – real, homeless people suffering intolerable human distress.

The Ombudsman de Montréal issues five recommendations to the concerned Ville de Montréal entities. Faced with uneven involvement on the part of some partners in the health and social services sector, the Ombudsman conveys its concerns to the Protecteur du citoyen, which will investigate them.

The purpose of this investigation is not only to ascertain the legitimacy of the complainants’ grievances and, where appropriate, to suggest remedies, but also to examine the broader issue of Ville de Montréal’s responsibilities with respect to homeless Indigenous and Inuit people concerned.
