ANGOLA | Ombudsman Florbela Araújo celebrates the 74th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, focusing on Vulnerable People

The Ombudsman of Angola celebrated on December 14, 2022, for the second consecutive year, the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, institutionalized on December 10, 1948 by the United Nations (UN).

This high-level event, with the main theme: “The Role of the Ombudsman in Defending the Rights of Citizens in Situations of Vulnerability”, featured speeches by guests from entities such as: Mr Manuel Homem, Governor of Province of Luanda, Mr Marcy Claúdio Lopes, Minister of Justice and Human Rights and Permanent Resident Representant of the UN in Angola, Mrs Zahira Virani, and on behalf of the President of the National Assembly Mr Américo António Cuanonoca, First Vice-President of the National Assembly.

It had as lecturers and moderator respected names in society, the presence of the Veneranda Judge Jubilado Counselor of the Constitutional Court and University Professor, Dr Luzia Bebiana Sebastião, where a greater dissemination of the theme of Human Rights from the early materialization of mechanisms to safeguard the rights of citizens and bringing society closer to the state were among others the conclusions and recommendations that came out of this event that highlighted the Ombudsman as the Inspector of Violations of the Institutions of the Central Administration of the State, should have the support of all State entities, International Organizations and Associations for the Defense of Dignity of the Human Persons.
