BAHRAIN | Ombudsman awarded Chaillot Prize for the Promotion of Human Rights

The Ombudsman Office for the Ministry Interior and the National Institution for Human Rights were jointly awarded the Chaillot Prize for the Promotion of Human Rights in the GCC region in 2014.

Ombudsman secretary-general Nawaf Al Ma'awda and National Institution of Human Rights president Dr Abdulaziz Abul received the prizes in a ceremony at the Sheraton Hotel from the head of the EU Delegation in Riyadh, Ambassador Adam Kulach. In addition to members of the Ombudsman Office and the NIHR, the ceremony was attended by government officials, diplomats, and parliamentarians.

The awarding body stated the prize was given in order to acknowledge and further encourage the Ombudsman Office's and the National Institution for Human Rights' efforts and work for the promotion and protection of Human Rights in Bahrain. The Chaillot Prize is presented annually by the European Union Delegation in Riyadh, in cooperation with embassies from the European Union States in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
