IOI | NPM Workshop in Oslo – Save the Date

IOI WORKSHOP FOR NATIONAL PREVENTIVE MECHANISMS

“Mental Health in Detention”

“Creating Change for NPMs fulfilling the mandate for many years”

9 – 11 February 2026 / Oslo (Norway)

The IOI is pleased to continue the successful training series for Ombudsman with NPM mandate and to cooperate with its long-standing partner, the Association for the Prevention of Torture (APT) again.

The next NPM training workshop will be kindly hosted by the Office of the Parliamentary Ombud of Norway and held in Oslo from 9 – 11 February 2026. It will be delivered by the APT and deal with mental health in detention (including OPCAT and CRPD mandates), as well as creating change for NPMs who have been monitoring for years.

The training will be conducted in English; a high level of English proficiency is therefore requested from participants. To ensure the highest possible outcome, participation is limited to a maximum of 30 people and a maximum of two representatives per member institution.

The IOI offers this training free of charge to member institutions in good standing (i.e. members with paid up fees incl. the year 2024/2025). Travel and accommodation costs must be covered by the participants themselves.

Registration will be open soon and an invitation letter will be sent to all IOI members together with more details on the training content, information on how to apply for scholarships, and the necessary practical information. Once the registration process is open, participants will be accepted on a “first come, first serve” basis.

The IOI is looking forward to your active participation in this next NPM workshop. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact the IOI General Secretariat.
