Australia | New OPCAT report on visits to police stations in Australia’s capital

The Commonwealth National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) and Australian Capital Territory (ACT) NPM have released a report following a joint program of visits to ACT police stations under the Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture (OPCAT).

Commonwealth and ACT Ombudsman, Mr Iain Anderson said, ‘There were several positive initiatives observed throughout the visits, nonetheless it was evident that more work is needed to bring facilities up to an acceptable standard’.
