IOI President Chris Field contributed an official statement on the occasion of the V. International Conference on “Human Rights Protection in Eurasia: Exchange of Best Practices of Ombudspersons”, which was organized by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation on 12 October 2021.
In his statement, President Field welcomed the opportunity to address the participants of the conference and congratulated High Commissioner Moskalkova for organising this important event. He underlined the importance of an active exchange of experiences and knowledge among colleagues, as this helps colleagues around the world in advancing their collective understanding of best practices in the field.
“The independent and impartial investigation of complaints made by citizens regarding the exercise of the power of government as well as the Ombudsperson’s own initiative investigations are central to the Ombudsperson as a protector of human rights,” said President Field in his contribution.
