IOI | IOI President meets Chief Minister Sindh and addresses Launching Ceremony of a Research Study undertaken by the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh

President Field’s first morning in Karachi commenced with meeting the Chief Minister Sindh, His Excellency Syed Murad Ali Shah. His Excellency and President Field enjoyed a warm exchange and President Field was honoured that His Excellency presented him a traditional Sindhi cap and Ajrak, which President Field wore with great pride during his address at the Launching Ceremony of the Research Study “Assessment of Malnutrition (Stunting) in District Tharparkar” held in the main hall of the Chief Minister’s House.

The Research Study, undertaken by the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh, is in the context that access to food and nutrition is a fundamental right for the citizens of Pakistan as enshrined in the Constitution. The President was deeply pleased that this Research Study received funding through the IOI Regional Subvention Program that seeks to fund projects of significance in regions around the world.

“The United Nations Resolution on Ombudsman and Mediator Institutions very specifically enumerates the role of Ombudsman to protect and promote human rights. There could be no more obvious way for an Ombudsman anywhere in the world to put this role into practice, than to seek to remedy malnutrition and its obviously devastating outcomes. This is what the Research Study does – it seeks to make the lives of the people of Tharparkar better now and better for the future of their children. This surely is the Ombudsman institution at its finest” said President Field.
