ARMENIA | Human Rights Defender announced essay competition to promote inclusive education

The Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia announced an essay competition titled “My Friend” as a part of the #changetheworld awareness campaign to promote inclusive education. Inclusion is the opportunity of the people to get an education, work together and be a full member of the society. Inclusive education cannot function effectively as long as there is discrimination in our families and/or the society against a child with a disability.

Through creative work, each child has to show by his/her example of how he/she can change the world making it inclusive and harmonious by his/her attitude towards his/her friend.

Conditions of the essay competition were: 

  • The essay competition titled “My Friend” (for example “My Friend Ani”, “My Friend David”) was open for schoolchildren from 5th to 9th grades. Children presented what they think inclusive education is, how they can create an inclusive environment by telling stories about their friends that will be exemplary for society.
  • The maximum word limit of the essay was 200.
  • Children shall write the essay by themselves.
  • Essays shall be emailed to changetheworld@ombuds.am or mailed to Pushkin street 56a, 0002, Yerevan. The name, surname, patronymic, age, grade, school, place of residence, contact information shall be presented together with the essay. Submissions with incomplete personal data will not participate in the competition.
  • The competition started on October 19, 2019. and lasted till November 10, 2019 (inclusive).

The award ceremony took place in November 2019 and the winners received prizes. The best essays have been published with the consent of the children.
