IOI | Chief Ombudsman of New Zealand elected Second Vice-President

Peter Boshier, Chief Ombudsman of New Zealand, has been elected Second Vice-President of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI).

IOI Secretary General Werner Amon congratulated Mr. Boshier on his election, underlining the enormous commitment he has shown to the IOI in his role as APOR Regional President and his excellent contribution to the UN Working Group, which helped pave the IOI’s way forward as an internationally recognized organization. “I am convinced that Peter will continue this outstanding work as Second Vice-President of the IOI,” said Secretary General Amon.

Mr Boshier was appointed Chief Ombudsman of New Zealand in 2015 and reappointed in 2020. He has overseen an expansion in the size and scope of his office and instituted a new framework for assessing, investigating and resolving complaints.

He was elected Regional President of the IOI’s APOR region in 2018 and has served on the IOI Board since 2016. As Regional President, he has lead a review of the APOR manual and bylaws, contributed to the development and passage of the UN Resolution on the Role of the Ombudsman, and serves on the IOI’s UN Working Group. In 2020, he established an International Development and Engagement team within his office to facilitate the exchange of training, knowledge and support within the region.

Mr Boshier says, “I am honoured to serve the role of Second Vice President. This election was based on the high performance of my office, and the fact that we are resourced accordingly to enable us to do the work we do in the international space.”
