IOI | Board of Directors adopts resolution on Covid-19

The outbreak of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and the subsequent rapid development of the pandemic have had a huge impact on all of us and confront us with unprecedented challenges. COVID-19 has affected all of us, but it has had a disproportionate impact on the most vulnerable in our societies.

The Ombudsman’s role is crucial in making sure people have access to the public services they need and that these services are delivered fairly. In a global pandemic such as the one we are currently facing, the Ombudsman is needed more than ever.

In a resolution adopted by the IOI Board of Directors on 18 May 2020, the IOI speaks out on this issue and calls on all Ombudsman institutions to redouble their efforts and to play an active part in making sure fundamental rights are protected, the principles of a transparent and accountable public administration are upheld and individuals – especially those from vulnerable groups – are not discriminated against.
