The Barcelona Ombudsman’s Office (Sindicatura de Greuges de Barcelona) has participated in the 5th General Assembly of the Global Alliance of Local Ombudspersons (AGOL), held in Barranquilla, Colombia, where it shared its experience in promoting proximity-based ombudsmanship, reparative approaches and citizen participation as key tools for protecting rights at the local level.
During the international gathering, the institution highlighted the importance of active listening in neighbourhoods, access to justice, and stronger collaboration among ombudsman institutions to advance human rights and good administration. The Assembly concluded with the adoption of the Barranquilla Declaration, reaffirming the shared commitment of local ombudsman institutions to democratic governance, citizen participation and international cooperation.
The Barcelona Ombudsman also emphasized the value of peer learning and international networks such as AGOL in addressing common challenges and strengthening the impact of local ombudsman institutions worldwide.
