El Comité contra la Tortura de la ONU (CAT) emitió sus observaciones finales luego del examen periódico de la Argentina en cumplimiento de la Convención contra la Tortura llevado a cabo los días 26 y 27 de abril.

Los Ombudsman de las provincias de Santa Fe, Buenos Aires y Córdoba se comunicaron telefónicamente y acordaron que se evalúen las obras necesarias para que la cuenca no desborde e inunde las localidades vecinas. Piden consensuar soluciones entre las tres jurisdicciones.

On the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the Asian Ombudsman Association (AOA), First Vice-President of the IOI Diane Welborn and Secretary General Günther Kräuter were represented at AOA’s 15th General Assembly, jointly held by national and provincial ombudsman of the region. Diane Welborn’s opening speech on the successful work of the AOA in the fight against corruption and Günther Kräuter’s contributions to two sessions of the conference formed part of an excellently organized conference dealing with the past, present and future perspectives of Asian Ombudsman institutions.

Two direct investigation reports on “Housing Department’s Mechanism for Taking Follow-up Action against Unauthorised Alterations by Public Housing Tenants” and “Government’s Regulation of Factory Canteens” were released by the Office of the Ombudsman of Hong Kong.

The Queensland Ombudsman offers practical and interactive training opportunities for public sector officers on managing complaints, making decisions, managing unreasonable conduct and ethical dilemmas.

IOI President Peter Tyndall and Secretary General Günther Kräuter congratulate Ombudwoman Lora Vidovic on the 25^th anniversary of the establishment of the Croatian Ombuds institution. Peter Tyndall’s well reputed speech and Günther Kräuter’s moderation formed part of an excellently organized conference dealing with the timely topic of “Reclaiming human rights in Europe: How to enhance the democratic space”.

At its annual meeting in Vienna the IOI Board of Directors adopted a declaration requesting the Congress of Argentina to accelerate procedures to appoint the National Ombudsman – a position which has remained vacant for the past seven years – and the National Ombudsman for Children and Adolescents – a position which remains vacant since its creation in 2005.

En el marco de la visita oficial realizada a la Argentina por el Grupo de Trabajo en Detenciones Arbitrarias del Alto Comisionado de las Naciones Unidas para los Derechos Humanos, el día 8 de mayo se recibió en la Procuración Penitenciaria de la Nación (PPN) parte de la comitiva integrada por la Sra. Elina Steinerte –Vicepresidenta- y a la Sra. Lucie Viersma –Secretaria-.
