IOI President Chris Field PSM was delighted to meet with the Australian Ambassador to Thailand, Her Excellency Dr. Angela McDonald PSM, on the occasion of his official visit to Thailand. Immediately following their warm and informative exchange, Her Excellency was very gracious to host an official dinner at the Ambassador’s Residence in honour of President Field’s visit to Thailand.

On Tuesday 11 July 2023, the Chief Ombudsman of Thailand hosted the International Seminar, “Asian Ombudsman as a Mechanism for Promoting Fair Administration, Good Governance and the Rule of Law". IOI President Chris Field PSM had the great honour of providing a Special Lecture, “The IOI as a mechanism for promoting fair administration, good governance and the rule of law”. He was also delighted to Chair the Panel Discussion, “The importance of Ombudsman’s accountability, independence and transparency in establishing a peaceful society”. 

The Ombudsman’s Report to the Assembly of the Republic – 2022 and the annual report on the activity developed as the NPM – National Mechanism for the Prevention of Torture were delivered on 4 July 2023 at the Assembly of the Republic by the Ombudsman, Maria Lúcia Amaral.

The Human Rights Defender’s Office has been supplemented with another regional subdivision. On 4 July 2023, the solemn opening ceremony of the Lori regional subdivision of the Human Rights Defender’s Office took place in Vanadzor.

Les 14 et 15 juin 2023, les membres de l’Association des Ombudsmans et Médiateurs de la Francophonie (AOMF) ont eu l’opportunité de se réunir à Québec (Canada), dans le cadre d’une formation sur les communications organisée par la présidence de l’AOMF, assurée par le Protecteur du citoyen.

The annual report provides in-depth statistical data on the investigation of complaints in 2022 and gives examples of complaints handled in that year relating to different issues, including public service, persons with disabilities, health and education.

The Ombudsman, Ms Winnie Chiu, presented the 2022-23 Annual Report of the Office of The Ombudsman to the public on 12 July 2023. The Office received 766 pandemic-related complaints in the year of 2022-23, accounting for about 14% of the total number of complaints, a hike from 206 last year.
