Research
The I.O.I. currently implements research projects that will become the basis for an intensified exchange of best practices among member institutions. A new APOR comparative research project aims at analysing the legal basis, the legal status as well as the position of ombudsman institutions of the APOR Region within their political systems and societies.

Training
Since November 2010 the I.O.I. General Secretariat in Vienna hosted two ‘Sharpening Your Teeth’ (SYT) training programmes free of charge to all its members in good standing. 75 staff members of ombudsman institutions from 27 countries attended, 14 scholarships for members with limited financial resources were funded.

Communication
Since summer 2011 the I.O.I. offers a new information service to more than 800 key stakeholders in the international ombudsman community, i.e. to I.O.I. member institutions, independent non-member institutions, representatives of regional ombudsman associations, as well as international organisations, such as the ICC, the Council of Europe and the OSCE.

Regional subsidies
In the membership year 2010/2011 the IOI reseved funds up to a maximum of EUR 50,000.00 for regional projects with a focus on training activities. Projects are being implemented in Burkina Faso, Peru, Spain, Poland and the US.

Partners
The I.O.I. aims at providing clear membership value and at offering enhanced services to its members. In its efforts to implement a broad range of projects the I.O.I. is supported by an increasing number of partners.
