New Director for the Ombudsman’s Office
The State Comptroller and Ombudsman of Israel, Judge (Ret.) Joseph H. Shapira, has selected Dr. Esther Ben-Haim, or Esti as she is called by her peers, to be the new Director of the Ombudsman’s Office. Her nomination been approved by the State Audit Committee of the Knesset (Israeli Parliament) in November of 2017.

The Council of Europe’s Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) has published a statement of principles relating to the treatment of persons deprived of their liberty in the context of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Ombudsman calls for the protection of human rights in social care institutions to be guaranteed
The Seimas Ombudsman appealed to all Lithuanian municipalities and care institutions to ensure respect for human rights and freedoms in the time of COVID-19 outbreak. In his appeal, the Seimas Ombudsman aimed to remind that international human rights standards guarantee the right of every person to the highest standard of health care, even in an emergency.

Establishment of the Office of the Ombudsman in Tonga
The initial name of Commissioner for Public Relations has been changed to Ombudsman. This is to put Tonga in line with other countries in calling the head of the Office "Ombudsman". The Office no longer holds the name "Office of the Commissioner for Public Relations" but is known now as "the Office of the Ombudsman."

How Tusla and the HSE provided and coordinated supports for a child with a disability in the care of the State
In a recently published report, the Ombudsman for Children presents the case of Molly (Names have been changed to protect anonymity), who was born with Down Syndrome and severe autism and has grown up with her foster family after being placed there when she was a baby. Molly’s foster carer made a complaint to the Ombudsman about the level of supports and services being provided and the Ombudsman’s investigation found that there was a lack of co-ordination between the two agencies which meant that services and supports provided by both organisations were insufficient.
