Another new role for the Ombudsman in New Zealand
The Government in New Zealand has announced a proposal aimed at strengthening the independent oversight of the Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children systems and children’s issues. Parliamentary Ombudsman presents Annual Report 2017 to the President of the House of Representatives
The Parliamentary Ombudsman, Mr Anthony C. Mifsud, called upon the President of the House of Representatives, the Hon. Angelo Farrugia to present the Office of the Ombudsman’s Annual Report for 2016. During the meeting with the Speaker, the Ombudsman announced that during the Annual General Meeting of the Association of Mediterranean Ombudsman in Skopje, Macedonia, he was appointed as Secretary General of the Association.

Public access to court case-law contributes to predictable decision-making by the courts, unification of the decision-making practice and transparency of court decisions, and thus also to promotion of the right to a fair trial. Forum for the creation of an NPM database at the Austrian Ombudsman Board
On 27 and 28 March 2018, the Council of Europe, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) and the Austrian Ombudsman Board organized a forum with representatives from NPMs of six European countries and international and European experts. The topic was the possible creation of a databank for the exchange of national standards in places of detention and NPM recommendations.

Resolving complaints to the Ombudsman early
In late 2016, the Victorian Ombudsman created an Early Resolution Team which identifies matters that can be resolved informally, focusing on practical outcomes. The team now handles about 85 per cent of approaches to the Ombudsman, closing most within 30 days.
