Ombudsman Margaret Kelly has called for patients to be given a central role in shaping safety protocols within Northern Ireland's health service. Speaking at a conference on patient safety on 20 March 2024, Ms Kelly asked the Department of Health to take the lead in creating a comprehensive framework that empowers patients and fosters a culture of safety and accountability.

Protecting the rights of migrant, refugee and asylum-seeking women and girls
52% of migrants who came to Europe in 2017 were women, according to the 2017 United Nations International Migration Report. Together with children, women and girls are the other most vulnerable groups most at risk from all types of abuses including trafficking, forced marriage or sexual exploitation. Up to 94% of them were trafficked for sexual exploitation in 2016.

Human Rights Defender monitors situation of domestic violence during the State of Emergency
Immediately after declaring the State of Emergency in Armenia, the Human Rights Defender has started the monitoring of the situation with regard to domestic violence. Reason for comprehensive monitoring is that the restrictions imposed during the State of Emergency increase the risk of violence in the family. In this respect, women, children and the elderly are the most vulnerable groups.
