Investigation by the Québec Ombudsman: taxpayers’ rights should be upheld
To avoid the involvement of the courts, Revenu Québec may enter into transactions (settlements) with certain taxpayers. In an investigation report released on February 27, 2020, the Québec Ombudsman revealed that the opposing party’s rights are not always upheld when these transactions are made.

Lisbon hosts regional meeting of the European Ombudsman network
Deputy Ombudsman Teresa Anjinho welcomed in Lisbon the second regional meeting of the European Ombudsman Network (ENO). The meeting, which took place on 9 and 10 December, focuses on the exchange of experiences on the handling of complaints and possible parallel inquiries between the European Ombudsman and national Ombudsmen on matters relating to the application of EU law.

Ombudsman's Office informs about work in the field of fight against poverty
The Ombudsman of the Republic of Latvia Juris Jansons has already submitted five applications to the Constitutional Court on the unconstitutionality of the amount of several state-determined benefits to vulnerable groups in the fight against poverty. Ombudsman Mr. Juris Jansons pointed out that poverty causes social exclusion, therefore it is the duty of a socially responsible state to create a social assistance system that ensures a dignified standard of living and allows a person to fully integrate into society.

People’s Advocate Position With Regard To The Large Number Of Personal Data Of Albanian Citizens Compromised For Political Purposes
Given the concerns of a large number of citizens regarding allegations of the collection and use of their personal data by a political entity, specifically the Socialist Party of Albania, the Institution of the People's Advocate states that obtaining and using personal data of citizens by any political party is illegal, unless the citizens themselves have given a special written authorization for their use for the permitted purpose, or for other concrete cases provided by the legislation in force.

Chief Ombudsman Peter Boshier has released a new guide to help anyone looking to disclose serious wrongdoing happening in their workplace. The Protected Disclosures Act 2022 is about disclosing serious wrongdoing – sometimes called ‘whistle-blowing’ – and explains the procedures to be followed when making a disclosure, as well as the protections available to those who do make a disclosure.
