Cage beds must be abandoned in care of disabled people
The European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) has stated that the use of cage beds can be considered to offend human dignity and must therefore be stopped immediately.

UN Committee asks Poland how persons with disabilities are supported in their independent life
For the first time the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) examined the report of the Polish government on the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Deputy Commissioner for Human Rights, Sylwia Spurek, gave a speech on this topic.

Illegal business of acid and nickel polish in residential area removed on the intervention of the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh
A complaint was filed against illegal business of acid & nickel polish by some private persons in residential compound without any NOC/License of the relevant agency. The home based unit was operating with huge quantity of chemicals and the used material was drained through sewerage system of the area creating environmental hazard for the residents.

Protector of Citizens organises conference on the protection of children from sexual exploitation and abuse
Prevention and changing the normative framework were identified as the most important measures in the fight against sexual abuse of children at the conference on "National dialogue on the protection of children from sexual exploitation and abuse", organised by the Protector of Citizens of the Republic of Serbia and the Network of Organizations for Children of Serbia.

Mistreatment of people with disabilities in social services has among others systemic causes, warns Ombudsman
Based on findings of the Public Defender's visit to a home for persons with disabilities, the Ombudsman warns that the mistreatment of people with disabilities in social services has - among others - systemic causes as well. People with severe mental disabilities are very vulnerable and dependent on the care of others. It is all the more serious to find that they are exposed to mistreatment in what should be a safe home for them.

Second meeting under MOU with Ombudsman of New Zealand
On the sidelines of the Southeast Asian Ombudsman Forum (SEAOF) Meeting, held 30 October – 3 November 2022, in Bangkok, Chief Ombudsman Somsak Suwansujarit held a second Ombudsman-level meeting under the MOU on bilateral cooperation between the Ombudsman of Thailand and the Ombudsman of New Zealand. The Chief Ombudsman further took the opportunity of this SEAOF event to sign a MOU with the Ombudsman for Human Rights and Justice of Timor-Leste.

Network of Southeast European NPMs meets in Vienna
From 15 – 16 November 2022, the second meeting of this year of the Southeast European Network of National Preventive Mechanisms (SEE NPM Network) was held in Vienna under the chairmanship of the Austrian Ombudsman Board. Within this network, 13 NPMs meet regularly to exchange experiences and facilitate shared learning.

NPMs of German-speaking countries exchange experience at annual meeting
From 10 - 11 November 2022 the annual meeting of German-speaking National Preventive Mechanisms (NPM) took place at the Austrian Ombudsman Board in Vienna. For the first time, representatives of the NPM from Luxembourg and the Principality of Liechtenstein took part in this exchange as well.
