South Australian Ombudsman's 2023-24 Annual Report tabled in parliament
The South Australian Ombudsman’s 2023-24 Annual Report was tabled in parliament on Tuesday 15 October 2024. The Ombudsman, Ms Emily Strickland, reported a five per cent increase in the number of complaints received – rising to just over 4600. More than 180 complaints were resolved by agreement including through the use of statutory conciliation powers.

Mediation Case: Lands Department attentive to public concern with prompt actions to address risk of tree collapse
A village resident was concerned about the condition of the trees on the government land nearby, particularly a large tree adjacent to his house, which had grown taller and taller with its trunk leaning more significantly. The Ombudsman’s Office sympathised with his long-standing concern, given that tree collapse had caused casualties time and time again in the past.

Taxpayers' Ombudsperson releases 2023–2024 Annual Report
Canada’s Taxpayers’ Ombudsperson, Mr. François Boileau, released his annual report, Fair Access to Service, which was tabled on 8 October 2024 in the House of Commons by Ms. Iqra Khalid, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Revenue. The report provides an overview of the activities of the Office of the Taxpayers’ Ombudsperson between April 1, 2023, and March 31, 2024.

CY issues correction to Ministry of Labor and New Taipei City Government on forced unpaid leave to foreign fishermen
An investigation conducted by Control Yuan has found that after the end of Taiwan’s neritic squid fishing season in September 2023, employers and agents flexibly adjusted fishing manpower using “consensual termination of contract” to avoid requirements of the Labor Standards Act. As a result, 64 foreign fishermen were forced to take unpaid leave, denied the three-year guarantee of work in their contracts, and not given severance pay.

The office of the Western Australian Ombudsman has tabled its 2023-24 annual report in Parliament. The report outlines the work of the Office for the year, including receipt of 2,437 complaints and 12,079 enquiries, finalisation of 95% of complaints within 3 months and the acceptance of all recommendations.

Ombudsman’s recommendations to address issues arising from the implementation of “Universal Coverage for Emergency Patients” policy
The Universal Coverage for Emergency Patients is a government policy presented to the parliament by the Council of Ministers. The Council of Ministers has approved the criteria, methoos, and conditions for determining costs associated with treating critical emergency patients under the UCEP policy. As this policy involves multiple government agencies and ministries, the Thailand Ombudsman’s fact-finding results and recommendations have been submitted to the Prime Minister for review and appropriate action.
