On 19 July 2024, Toronto’s Ombudsman Kwame Addo released an update on the work his office’s new Housing Unit has done during its first year of operation. Established in July of 2023, the Housing Unit at Ombudsman Toronto investigates and reviews the planning and delivery of the City of Toronto’s housing services, policies, and programs to make sure they are fair and uphold Torontonians’ human right to adequate housing.

2024-07-19Reminder - Invitation to participate in a survey for the OPRAS project
The Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman and Professor Chris Gill (University of Glasgow) are conducting a joint research project examining the role of ombudspersons in the protection of refugees and asylum seekers (the OPRAS project). The corresponding survey, whose aim is to understand the work of ombudspersons in this area and to identify good practice, is still open until 27 September 2024. You can now also download the survey in Word format to facilitate its completion where more than one individual is completing it.

El Defensor del Pueblo de los Servicios Públicos de Irlanda del Norte y el profesor Chris Gill (Universidad de Glasgow) están llevando a cabo un proyecto de investigación conjunto que examina el papel de los defensores del pueblo en la protección de los refugiados y solicitantes de asilo (el proyecto OPRAS). La encuesta correspondiente, cuyo objetivo es conocer el trabajo de los defensores del pueblo en este ámbito e identificar buenas prácticas, sigue abierta hasta el 27 de septiembre de 2024. Ahora también puede descargarse la encuesta en formato Word para facilitar su cumplimentación cuando sea más de una persona la que la rellene.

La falta de seguridad jurídica sobre la tenencia de la vivienda genera desgaste de las personas en el intento por consolidar su patrimonio y afianzar su proyecto de vida, comprometiendo también el disfrute de otros derechos humanos igualmente trascendentes, como sus Derechos a la Salud, a la Integridad personal, a la Familia y a la Propiedad, entre otros. Así lo advirtió la Presidenta de la Comisión de Derechos Humanos de la Ciudad de México (CDHCM), Nashieli Ramírez Hernández, durante la presentación de la Recomendación 05/2024, dirigida al Instituto de la Vivienda (INVI), por la falta de seguridad jurídica sobre la tenencia de vivienda en el caso de una mujer adulta mayor.
