Ombudsman suggests solutions for teleworking parents with dependents or minor children
The Ombudsman sent a letter to the Secretary of State for Education and the Secretary of State for Social Security, in which she requested consideration of solutions for employees in the telework regime who are faced with situations that are incompatible with the demands of their family lives, in particular when they have dependent children or children under 12 years of age studying at home.

The IOI is pleased to present the next issue of its Best Practice Paper series (BPP). Issue 5 puts a focus on the rights of mental health patients, especially those who are involuntarily detained in psychiatric facilities or required to take medical treatment. The BPP is based on observations made by the Ombudsman of Alberta and the British Columbia Ombudsperson.

Every year, around 1,600 students from the Caribbean part of the Kingdom embark optimistically on a study programme in the Netherlands, but many fail to make it to the end. The National Ombudsman drew attention to this issue. He investigated the challenges faced by Caribbean students and made recommendations for government and other organisations.

Public Protector to sign agreement with Gauteng Premier as part of stakeholder roadshow
The Public Protector South Africa (PPSA) and the Gauteng Provincial Government are set to enter into an agreement aimed at ensuring that requests for investigation-related information, among other things, are responded promptly to expedite investigative processes. Public Protector Adv. Busisiwe Mkhwebane and Premier David Makhura will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on the sidelines of a PPSA Stakeholder Roadshow meeting at the City of Tshwane offices in Pretoria on Friday.
