Peter Boshier began an investigation after receiving a complaint from a family member of the children about the way Oranga Tamariki responded to reports of concern.

El Defensor del Pueblo, Ángel Gabilondo, ha abierto una actuación de oficio ante la Comisión Estatal contra la Violencia, el Racismo, la Xenofobia y la Intolerancia en el Deporte (Consejo Superior de Deportes) solicitando información sobre las actuaciones iniciadas tras los insultos racistas proferidos contra los jugadores Lamine Yamal, Ansu Fati y Raphinha, en el partido de fútbol que disputaron Real Madrid y el Barcelona el pasado sábado, 26 de octubre, en el Estadio Santiago Bernabéu.

OCI’s Latest Annual Report Issues Groundbreaking Investigations into the Experiences of Maximum-Security and Life-Sentenced Prisoners in Canada
The 2023-24 Annual Report of the Office of the Correctional Investigator (OCI) was tabled in Parliament on October 29, 2024. The Office’s latest Annual Report breaks new ground in two national-level investigations examining conditions of confinement in male stand-alone maximum-security penitentiaries and on the experience of persons serving a life (or indeterminate) sentence in Canada, a sentence that has no end date.

The Control Yuan publishes 2021 Annual Report
Recently, the Control Yuan (CY) published the 2021 Annual Report. For the whole of 2021, the CY received 14,403 people’s complaints; issued 244 investigation reports; passed 16 impeachment cases and 1 censure case; and proposed 78 corrective measures cases. The Annual Report also includes 6 case summaries, which are categorized into public expenditures, upholding discipline and safeguarding human rights.

Ombudsman Grace Tikambenji Malera has challenged Public Officers in the country to exercise their duties and functions in a proper, fair, just, reasonable and lawful manner; further to accounting for their decisions or actions. Malera made the call in a presentation she made during a webinar organized by the University of Malawi (Unima).

Élection du Médiateur du Royaume du Maroc, premier vice-président de l'Association des médiateurs et ombudsmans de la Francophonie
Le Médiateur du Royaume du Maroc, Monsieur Mohamed BENALILOU, a été élu jeudi 17 octobre 2024, à Québec, au Canada, premier vice-président de l'Association des médiateurs et ombudsmans de la Francophonie, représentant le groupe africain, aux côtés du Médiateur de la Wallonie et de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, de l'Ombudsman de la province du Nouveau-Brunswick au Canada, du Défenseur des droits français et du Médiateur de la République du Bénin, et a ce titre, il a également été élu président du "Comité d'engagement" de ladite association.

European Ombudsman criticises Commission failure to inform public how it assessed human rights risks in EU-Tunisia agreement
The European Ombudsman has criticised the Commission for not being transparent about the human rights information it relied on before signing an agreement with Tunisia that includes EU funds for border management. She also called on the Commission to set out explicit criteria for suspending EU funding.

Mediation Case: Lands Department attentive to public concern with prompt actions to address risk of tree collapse
A village resident was concerned about the condition of the trees on the government land nearby, particularly a large tree adjacent to his house, which had grown taller and taller with its trunk leaning more significantly. The Ombudsman’s Office sympathised with his long-standing concern, given that tree collapse had caused casualties time and time again in the past.

Ombudsman institution critical about the process of solving long-lasting problems in the field of environment also at the President’s Forum
On 30 September 2024, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, at Brdo pri Kranju hosted the fourth President’s Forum, in the forefront of which was the right to healthy a living environment. During the debate, Deputy Ombudsman, Dr Dijana Možina Zupanc, emphasised that violations of human rights in this field are ongoing, since every year the institution receives almost 200 complaints, of which approximately one fifth is valid.
