A new survey published by the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman found that one in five people did not feel safe while in the care of the NHS mental health service that treated them.

Parliamentary Ombudsman submitted Annual Report 2023 to Speaker of Parliament
On 25 June 2024, Parliamentary Ombudsman Petri Jääskeläinen submitted his Annual Report 2023 to Speaker of Parliament Jussi Halla-aho. In 2023, there were a total of 7,124 complaints (6,613 in 2022). This is just over 500 (7.7%) more than the previous year. The largest number of complaints concerned social welfare 1,136 (997), the police 855 (821), healthcare 803 (751) and criminal sanctions 591 (672). In the reporting year, 6,876 complaints were resolved. The corresponding figure in 2022 was 6,857.

The NSW Ombudsman’s Casebook July 2024: Investigations and complaint-handling case studies has been tabled in Parliament on 30 July 2024. The NSW Ombudsman holds agencies to account for the services they provide to the people of NSW, achieving positive outcomes for the complainants. Casebook July 2024 is the first of what will be biannual reports featuring case studies illustrating how the NSW Ombudsman achieves those outcomes.

Celebrating 15 Years of Fairness, Looking Forward
Toronto’s Ombudsman says 2024 marks 15 years of success for his office in solving problems with City services for the people of Toronto. In his annual report released on 21 June 2024, Ombudsman Kwame Addo notes that to date, the office has handled more than 31,000 individual complaints from members of the public.
