The Ombudsman addressed an alert to the competent authorities after receiving various complaints from foreign citizens reporting difficulties encountered with services provided by the Institute of Social Security (ISS, IP) that are not taking into account the exceptional rules in force in relation to the regularity of their stay in national territory, thereby blocking access to various social benefits.

Recently the Control Yuan (CY) published the 2020 Annual Report. In 2020, the CY received 13,153 people’s complaints and issued 306 investigation reports. Also 40 impeachment cases were passed and 85 corrective measure cases were proposed.The CY Annual Report 2020 is now available in English and Spanish.

Northwest Territories Ombud releases report on own motion investigation into complaints handling and service fairness in the income assistance program
The report, entitled An Ounce of Prevention: Fairness in the Income Assistance Program, considered service fairness in the Northwest Territories government’s administration of its income assistance program, which provides financial help to people who would otherwise have difficulty meeting basic needs.
