Ombudsman co-hosts conference on occasion of its 30th anniversary
2014 marks 30 years of the Office of the Ombudsman in Ireland. As part of its 30th Anniversary, the Ombudsman's Office is co-hosting a conference with the Institute of Public Administration (IPA). “Held to Account: Responsibility and Accountability in the Public Service” takes place on 7 November 2014 and speakers include the Ombudsman, Peter Tyndall and IOI President Dame Beverley A. Wakem.

Seimas Ombudsman calls for ratification of the Istanbul Convention
An investigation on providing assistance to victims of domestic violence revealed a sad reality: assistance to victims of violence is often still unavailable, those who call the police are still left alone with the perpetrator, and assistance often includes purely formal oral consultations, despite the obvious need for specific assistance. These and other striking conclusions were drawn by the Seimas Ombudsman Augustinas Normantas, having summarized the results of the investigation into the provision of assistance to persons, who had experienced domestic violence.

Public Defender’s special statement on situation in penitentiary establishments
In 2020, the Public Defender of Georgia published a special report, in which she talked about the fact that the management model of semi-open establishments was based on informal hierarchy of prisoners, where the so-called "prison watchers" provide fictitious order, which aims to silence prisoners and prevent them from talking about their problems. The publication of this report was followed by public attacks on the Public Defender and illegal actions by the Minister of Justice and the Penitentiary Service. As a result, it has becomedangerous for the representatives of the Public Defender's Office to carry out visits and monitoring at the penitentiary establishments.

Report of OIC Conference published
The Ombudsman Network of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held a two-day conference in Islamabad in April 2014. The conference was organized by the Forum of Pakistan Ombudsman and focused on strengthening the Institution of Ombudsmen in OIC member states.

Ombudsman’s report on policing intoxicated and disorderly conduct
In 2014 the New South Wales Ombudsman completed a review of the operation of the offence of continuing to be intoxicated and disorderly in public. This section provides for police to issue a person with an on-the-spot fine or charge the person for continuing to be intoxicated and disorderly after the person has already been given an opportunity to comply with a formal move on direction from police. The Ombudsman’s final report was tabled in Parliament in 2014.

The European Region of the IOI held its biennial conference from 17 to 19 September 2014. The motto of the region’s 2014 conference was “The Ombudsman’s role in a democracy”. The conference was held in Tallinn and hosted by the office of the Chancellor of Justice of Estonia.

LeMédiateur de la Wallonie et de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, l’Ombudsman du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg, et le Délégué général à la médiation avec les services publics par la Défenseure des droits de France, se sont entretenus en visioconférence autour des problématiques transfrontalières rencontrées dans le cadre du traitement de réclamations des ressortissants belges, luxembourgeois et français.
