As of 1 July 2013, pensioners working in the public sector will stop receiving their pension as long as they remain employed. According to the Hungarian Ombudsman, this alteration of pension regulations infringes the right to property, therefore he requested the Constitutional Court to annul this amendment.

2020-04-30Ombudsman receives a large number of complaints related to the state of emergency
The Office of the Parliamentary Ombudsman has received more than 100 complaints related to the state of emergency and the coronavirus pandemic. The complaints have concerned all branches of administration. Many of the complaints are related to health care, social welfare and social insurance. The Office has also begun working on several issues at its own initiative.

Representatives of the Public Defender’s office visited the checkpoints set up for quarantine purposes in Marneuli, Rustavi and Mtskheta, where servicemen of the Defense Forces are deployed together with representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to evaluate the working conditions, health care procedures and monitored the procedures carried out by the military towards citizens at the checkpoints.

The NSW Ombudsman is required to review the deaths of children and adults who lived in the care of disability services and licensed boarding houses. NSW Ombudsman Bruce Barbour, tabled a report to Parliament today on the deaths in 2010 and 2011 of 220 people with disabilities who lived in care.

Irish Ombudsman Peter Tyndall has again expressed his concerns over the unsuitability of accommodation in Direct Provision. He said that the highly contagious nature of the COVID-19 virus has highlighted how unsustainable it is to have three or more people, who are not from the same family, living in the same room for a significant amount of time.

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the University for Peace and the United Nations University’s International Institute for Global Health jointly offer the fifth and sixth editions of the interactive and instructor-led e-learning module to train stakeholders on the normative, theoretical and practical importance of and mechanisms for operationalizing the Right to Development (RTD) in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

From 1 May 2013 over 180 additional publicly funded organisations will be subject to independent oversight by the Ombudsman enabling the office to examine complaints about the administrative actions of public organisations including Universities, Vocational Education Committees and the Family Support Agency, among many others.
