Every year, around 1,600 students from the Caribbean part of the Kingdom embark optimistically on a study programme in the Netherlands, but many fail to make it to the end. The National Ombudsman drew attention to this issue. He investigated the challenges faced by Caribbean students and made recommendations for government and other organisations.

Secretary General Werner Amon meets Pablo Ulloa, President of the Ibero-American Federation
As Secretary General of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI), the Austrian Ombudsman Werner Amon met the President of the Ibero-American Federation (FIO), Pablo Ulloa, who has also been the Ombudsman of the Dominican Republic since 2021. The meeting took place in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic in February 2022. The topics of the discussion were a potential membership of the Dominican Republic in the IOI and closer cooperation betwe en the FIO and the IOI.

The Ombudsman is pleased to present her special report on “Bus Service – Communications”, which was tabled in the House of Assembly on 18 February 2022. Ceslav Panico has been appointed People’s Advocate (Ombudsman) Moldova for a term of seven years. A decision in this regard was approved by the Parliament on February 3, 2022, with the vote of 57 deputies. During the same meeting, Ceslav Panico took the oath.

Canadian Council of Parliamentary Ombudsman welcomes Prince Edward Island's first Ombudsperson
Prince Edward Island’s (PEI) becomes the latest province to appoint an independent officer responsible for ensuring fairness and providing a safe avenue for whistleblower complaints in the public service. Sandy Hermiston will take office as the province’s first Ombudsperson and Public Interest Disclosure Commissioner on 14 February 2022. The Canadian Council of Parliamentary Ombudsman (CCPO) warmly welcomes the news.

Call for participation - Comparative study: “Digitalization of public services and the role of Ombudsman”
The University of Applied Sciences Vienna (FH Campus Wien) is conducting a study on the role of Ombudsman institutions in the context of the growing digitalization of public services worldwide. IOI member institutions are strongly encouraged to fill in a short online survey and/or to participate in a short interview with the researcher, Dr. Julia Dahlvik, to help her generate data for her research project, whose outcome will be of great benefit to Ombudsman institutions worldwide.
