2025-05-16Celebration of the 20th anniversary of the election of the first Ombudsman in Angola
On April 22 and 23, 2025, the Central Ceremony and the International Conference marking the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the election of the first Ombudsman of the Republic of Angola took place at the Auditorium of the Palace of Justice in Luanda, under the theme: “Ombudsman: 20 Years Serving Citizens and the Democratic Rule of Law”, as part of the celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of National Independence. The main objective was to commemorate both the 50th anniversary of Angola’s Independence and the 20th anniversary of the election of the first Ombudsman, and to reflect on the role of the Ombudsman in a democratic state through experience-sharing with national and international public and private entities.

The Wafaqi Mohtasib Pakistan, Mr. Ejaz Ahmed Qureshi, has said that all the Ombudsmen are working in their respective jurisdictions with a commitment to resolve the grievances of the general public speedily. On 31 August 2024, these remarks were made by Mr. Qureshi while inaugurating the Annual Conference of Banking Mohtasib Pakistan with the "Focus on Values in Public Sector Services" at a local hotel in Karachi.

2021-05-03The Pandemic Changed Complaints Made to Saskatchewan’s Ombudsman in 2020
The 2020 annual reports for Saskatchewan’s Ombudsman and Public Interest Disclosure Commissioner, Mary McFadyen, were tabled in the Legislature today. While some complaints to her Office continued as usual, the pandemic affected others. Complaints about long-term care facilities and correctional centres increased, but complaints about Social Services, SGI and Crown utilities decreased. Twelve of the 41 contacts made to her Office under The Public Interest Disclosure Act were related to the pandemic.

The Office of the Israel Ombudsman, in conjunction with the College of Safed Law School in northern Israel, is operating a clinic for law students on the subject: The Office of the Israel Ombudsman. The purpose of the clinic is to increase awareness of the Ombudsman's Office among residents of northern Israel, an area with a high concentration of minority populations including Arabs and new immigrants.

The Offices of the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia and the Public Defender of Georgia have been awarded the IOI subsidy for regional projects 2020/2021. The project proposal submitted by the two offices dealt with “Strengthening the Capacities of the Armenian and Georgian Ombudspersons in Monitoring the Socio-Economic Rights during Emergency Situations”.

The Public Protector South Africa, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, was suspended from office on 9 June 2022. The Public Protector has been a loyal and respected contributor to the IOI and its work for many years. The IOI therefore publishes a statement to voice its concern that any hearings in the National Assembly are conducted in fairness and in line with international standards.
