On 18 October 2022, the Western Australian Ombudsman and President of the International Ombudsman Institute released his report on giving effect to the recommendations arising from An investigation into the Office of the Public Advocate’s role in notifying the families of Mrs Joyce Savage, Mr Robert Ayling and Mr Kenneth Hartley of the deaths of Mrs Savage, Mr Ayling and Mr Hartley.

Paula Sussex has been appointed Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) by His Majesty King Charles. She will take up the role from 1 August 2025 and arrangements are now in place, meaning all casework can progress as normal.

On 16 April 2025, the Ombudsman, Mr Jack Chan, announced the completion of a direct investigation operation into the Government’s regulation of occupational safety and health in the construction industry, with 40 major recommendations for improvement made to the Labour Department, the Buildings Department and the Development Bureau.

2022-12-01Ombudsman SA reaches 50
2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the Ombudsman South Australia (SA). The Ombudsman Act 1972 was assented to on 23 November 1972 and the Office opened its doors to the public on 14 December 1972. At that time, South Australia was only the second Australian jurisdiction after Western Australia to install a parliamentary Ombudsman (although South Australia was the first to use the title ‘Ombudsman’). Now all States, Territories and the Commonwealth have an Ombudsman.

Ombudsman John Walters bids farewell with the offices Annaul Report 2020 - a year which was, without a doubt, the most significant year. On 21 March Namibia celebrated its 30th Independence Anniversary with the Covid-19 pandemic on our doorsteps. Despite the challenges brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Office managed to comply with its statutory duties and to commemorate 30 years of Ombudsmanship in Namibia with the publication of a 30th Anniversary Commemorative Book.
